Hi,
My son also has this issue on his Lenovo U31-70.
It has also qualcom Atheros ACA61x4 network card. It has Windows 10 and has that driver from 30/7-15 version 12.0.0.128.
He has to be really close to the router to get network (below 1 meter).
Has anyone found a solution for this?
We have tried to reinstall Windows 10 - and it did not help.
Thanks,
Kr
Helene

Got the similar problem with this wifi card and windows 10. Wifi works kind of weird: after boot all works fine sometimes few hours, sometimes few minutes, after that wifi become unresponsive: can't disconnect from wifi, can't turn off wifi, can't disable or remove wifi device. After reboot this happening on and on. I've tried to use latest drivers 12.0.0.128, latest drivers from lenovo's support site 12.0.0.102, but no difference, wifi is broken. I've try to disable bluetooth device (this chipset had both interfaces wifi and bluetooth) with a same result: wifi is broken.
Finally i've tried to use Microsoft driver (ver. 4.0.0.115 date: 23.04.2015) instead of Atheros for WiFi, and Atheros driver (ver. 10.0.0.128 date: 30.07.2015 ) for bluetooth. And the last ~20 hours, all works fine, wifi speed is bit slower, but at least do not have to restart my notebook every hour.

- By FreeJHackMacOS does not support natively the keyboard backlight for non-Apple hardware.
I wrote an open source Kext project (ClevoService) to perform this task on Clevo laptops.
It's fully working on my Clevo P9XXEN_EF_ED laptop with Mojave (18G95) and it should works on many other Clevo laptops.
If you own a Clevo laptop with full color backlight keyboard, take a look at:
https://github.com/FreeJHack/ClevoService
The big advantage is that the backlight function is fully controlled from the numeric keypad and it's saved between boot/reboot and sleep/wake.
You can change color, backlight level and ON/OFF.
For the installation, download the kext from release page and follow the instruction given in the GitHub repository. - By VyzantionI can not manage to install Catalina on this legacy Asus machine that runs Mojave fine. When the installer boots up, DiskUtility does not see the internal hard-drives, neither the master SATA one or the the slave, ATA one. I have discussed this already on the Clover section with Slice, he told that some kext seems to have changed from Mojave to Catalina, he told me to use IOReg. Since then, I have postponed my work on Catalina due to the issues regarding the Mojave supplemental updates.
I have decided to start a new topic in here, due to visibility reasons and some new turn. The latest version of the dosdude1 patcher for unsupported Macs, discussed on Macrumors forums, patches the installer so that DiskUtility sees the internal hard-drives, I am able to install Catalina but, on first boot, the OS gets into a kernal panic with the message ”still waiting for root device”. I have searched online for this error, I have found Information regarding previous macOS versions with solutions that seem to have little to no relevance for the present issue.
Before installation finishes, I receive a message like ”Installation finished on Macintosh HD Data”, instead of ”Installation finished on Macintosh HD”. I admit this split between the two in Catalina still confuses me, perhaps this is how it was suppose to be? Perhaps something that was suppose to end up on Macintosh HD ends in Macintosh HD Data?
I admit the DVD-Rom and hard-drives are wired kinda of weird by some guy in a PC service, he said this is the optimum combination, something the ATA hard-drive is slave to the DVD-Rom. Perhaps this causes confusion into Catalina? On Mojave this configuration was fine.
Probably the solution suggested by Slice is the best, to replace one or more kext from Catalina with the Mojave versions of them. I do not know yet how to identify and replace them. If any other solutions seem possible, I am open to them.

Intel Core 2 Duo E 8500
2 gb ram DDR 3 - By fusion71auThis is a brief guide on how to create a vanilla El Capitan (also same process for Sierra) OS X Installer USB with an updated prelinked kernel containing FakeSMC.
It is tailored for those users who want to understand the “nuts and bolts” of how to create an installer and also to help brush up on their terminal skills (rather than have one made for them with the numerous automated “tools” available or even Apple’s createinstallmedia) :
Specifically, it is also a “Proof of Concept” which shows that installation is possible without even having to rely on boot loader kext injection.
Prerequisites
Existing Yosemite installation (or Mavericks - see post#4 for steps 7,8) “Install OS X El Capitan.app' downloaded to the Applications folder Pacifist FakeSMC.kext - Slice or Kozlek branch Bootloader - Clover or Chameleon 8GB or larger USB drive (16GB recommended), formatted HFS+ (MBR or GUID) named “Installer”
Procedure
1. Boot into Yosemite with the kext-dev-mode=1 boot flag
2. Open OS X terminal and type the following lines, followed by <Enter> after each line.
The image restore and file copying may take a while to complete, and at the end of the process, the Installer volume is renamed to “OS X Base System'....
sudo -shdiutil attach /Applications/Install OS X El Capitan.app/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmgasr restore -source /Volumes/OS X Install ESD/BaseSystem.dmg -target /Volumes/Installer -erase -format HFS+ -noprompt -noverifyrm /Volumes/OS X Base System/System/Installation/Packagescp -av /Volumes/OS X Install ESD/Packages /Volumes/OS X Base System/System/Installationcp -av /Volumes/OS X Install ESD/BaseSystem.dmg /Volumes/OS X Install ESD/BaseSystem.chunklist /Volumes/OS X Base Systemdiskutil unmount /Volumes/OS X Install ESDexit 3. Right click on the “OS X Base System” Volume and click “Get Info”
4. Click on the lock icon and untick “Ignore ownership on this volume”
5. Extract/Copy the El Capitan Kernels folder into /System/Library/ of the USB with Pacifist. NB It is found in the 'Essentials.pkg' in /System/Installation/Packages
6. Delete or Rename the original /System/Library/PrelinkedKernels/prelinkedkernel —> OG.prelinkedkernel
7. Copy FakeSMC.kext and other necessary kexts (e.g. VoodooPS2Controller.kext for laptops) into the /Library/Extensions folder of the installer USB using Finder.
8. Back in terminal, type the following lines, followed by <Enter> after each line to rebuild the prelinkedkernel…..
sudo -schmod -R 755 /Volumes/OS X Base System/Library/Extensionschown -R 0:0 /Volumes/OS X Base System/Library/Extensionstouch /Volumes/OS X Base System/System/Library/Extensionskextcache -u /Volumes/OS X Base Systemexit Any errors should be noted but the output below is normal e.g.
9. Install your Bootloader targeting the OS X Base System volume
10. Boot your system with the USB without injected kexts into the OS X Installer GUI....
Post Install
The original prelinked kernel in a fresh install of El Capitan will also lack FakeSMC ie it will only be linked to Apple signed kexts. In order to boot into El Capitan the first time around without boot loader kext injection, the PLK needs to be rebuilt for the El Capitan volume like we did for the installer:
1. Boot into Yosemite with the kext-dev-mode=1 boot flag
2. Delete or Rename the original /System/Library/PrelinkedKernels/prelinkedkernel for the El Capitan volume —> OG.prelinkedkernel
3. Copy FakeSMC.kext and other necessary kexts (e.g. VoodooPS2Controller.kext for laptops) into the /Library/Extensions folder of El Capitan using Finder
4. Back in terminal, type the following lines, followed by <Enter> after each line to rebuild the prelinkedkernel. In this example, the El Capitan volume is named 'El_Capitan' - change if you have named it something else...
sudo -schmod -R 755 /Volumes/El_Capitan/Library/Extensionschown -R 0:0 /Volumes/El_Capitan/Library/Extensionstouch /Volumes/El_Capitan/System/Library/Extensionskextcache -u /Volumes/El_Capitanexit 5. Install your Bootloader targeting the El Capitan volume. This step is only necessary if you are installing El Capitan on a new drive without existing boot loader (not required if installing on a disk with existing boot loader beside Yosemite).
6. Reboot your system without injected kexts into El Capitan!

Updates for Sierra and High Sierra Custom Prelinkedkernel Generator Tool I have made a custom prelinkedkernel generator 'PLK.tool' for Sierra + El Capitan. Instructions: 1. Download and extract the attached BaseSystem_PLK.tool.zip into your ~/Downloads folder. 2. Copy any extra kexts necessary for booting your hack to ~/Downloads/BaseSystem/ExtraKexts (e.g. FakeSMC, VoodooPS2Controller), making sure SIP is disabled. 3. Copy BaseSystem.dmg to ~/Downloads/BaseSystem 4. Open terminal and run the following commands... cd ~/Downloads/BaseSystemchmod +x PLK.tool./PLK.tool ---> supply your admin password ---> will place your new custom prelinkedkernel on the desktop. macOS High Sierra bypass Firmware and MBR checks in post#13.
